The famous Mt. Annapurna region ranging southeast to the north with Lamjung Himal is certainly the most popular trekking destination in Nepal beside the Everest region. The central piece of this part of Nepal is the range of mountains that includes Annapurna I, the first of the 8000 meter peaks to be climbed (was successfully climbed by the French group in the year 1950). Also included in this general area is a nother 8000 meter giant, Daulagiri, which is located to the west of Annapurna I. Between these two mountains runs the valley of Kaligandaki River, the deepest gorge on earth. Other popular and beautiful peaks included in this ranges are Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Mt. Machhapuchhare, Rocknoir (Khangsar Kang) Nilgiri (north, central and south), Mt Tilicho etc are one the largest mountain masses of the World.
This region is recognized for the outsiders since the border of Nepal was opened in 1950. The region, beyond its beauty, holds the live history and museum since 8th century, relating to Upper Mustang. The Annapurna range has two giant fellows as herself, the Mt. Daulagiri in the west and the Mt. Manaslu in the northeast has a hand reaching skyline distance of human greedy feeling.
En route to this trip one of the main village is Manang (locally known as Nyasyang with 6 major villages), just across the pass from Jomsom/Muktinath. Tibetan way of life strongly runs in Manang, Jomsom and Mustang valleys giving a pirate touches to their fierce reputation.
This route offers a combined nature with lush fertile farming lands, vast stands of undisturbed natural forest and a mixture of different ethnic inhabitants and you have a diverse range of experiences that makes this area one of the most satisfying trekking destinations in Nepal.
The fact that the main Himalayan range runs south of the border with Tibet means that the northern parts of the area are in the rain shadow and are considerably drier than the southern slopes of the mountains. This leads to unusually diverse landscapes.
